A COMMUNITY FOR ALL WHO
Welcome to Cornerstone Church of Christ
We are a small church with a big heart and your donation is greatly appreciation. In an age were cash and checkbooks, are almost obsolete, members may now pay their tithes & offering online as well. Your contribution today helps us make a difference.
I struggle today with the words to express my deep feelings of emotions concerning the events of the last few weeks. I am extremely aware that our history is filled with events, such as, those of the last few weeks, but I struggle to except them as current events. I am reminded that, if we are not careful to remember, history will repeat it’s self. Our prayers and sincere condolences are with all of the families suffering from the loss of loved ones today.
Americans are outraged at the senseless murders that are occurring much too often in our cities today. The recent murders of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd have enraged communities within the last few weeks. I purposely said Americans, because this is not a black issue, nor is it a white issue, but it is a national issue. Americans are outraged and rightfully so. Americans are demanding that our cry for justice be heard. No human being, no citizen of this great nation should have to live in constant fear for their lives. Especially in fear of those sworn and employed to protect and serve.
However, in the midst of holding the guilty accountable, we cannot become entangled in the ugly web of racism and hatred. We cannot become the very evil which we seek to destroy. We cannot fix the problem, with more of the problem. History should tell us that retaliatory violence can hide the issues and draw attention to violence.
The change we seek will never come by burning down buildings and destroying the property of innocent people. We have to burn down and tear down a system that protects the guilty, while leaving the victims helpless and hopeless. We have people in the street trying to lead a fight that should be lead by our politicians, lawyers and legislators. Dr. King taught us the value of non-violent protest.
Our voice must be heard, we must continue to protest, but violence only leads to more violence and distracts from the issues.
God has perfectly stated:
· He places equal value upon all people:
(Gal. 3: 28) There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
· No man is more important than the other:
(Acts 10: 34) ....God is no respecter of persons:
· We have to learn to love, even when it tough, even if it’s “tough love”:
(Matt. 5: 44) ....love your enemy, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you...
· God will make sure everyone gets what they deserve:
(Rom. 12: 19) ....vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
The message is clear. Don’t stop fighting, don’t stop protesting, don’t stop demanding change, but don’t stoop to becoming your enemy. And if by chance there is something we can’t fix, God is a “fix it” God.
(Gal. 6: 9) And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
